The J29 prototype flew on Sept 1 1948, and the first production aircraft were delivered to the F13 Wing in Norrkoping in 1951. In total Saab built 661 J29, and they served the Swedish Airforce until 1976. The J29 made Sweden's Airforce the 4th most powerful in the world at the time.
